Elliott Review into the Integrity and Assurance of Food Supply Networks – Final Report

Elliott report

Public Analyst Michelle Evans says

"Staffordshire Scientific Services welcomes the Elliott review findings and is encouraged by the proposals that have been made to create a sustainable national, local authority run laboratory service.  We look forward to hearing the proposals for maintaining the Public Analysts and their laboratories' crucial role in protecting the public from food fraud over the coming months, whilst hoping that there is no further diminishing of local services."

Environment Secretary Elizabeth Truss has announced that

"All of the recommendations in the Elliott report on food integrity and assurance of food supply networks have been accepted by the government"

Staffordshire Scientific Services is an innovative, flexible, not for profit business unit within the Public Protection arm of Staffordshire County Council.

In operation since 1929, our Public Analysts and highly qualified scientific staff have been working to protect the public from the deliberate or accidental introduction of harmful food, drinks and animal feeding stuffs into the marketplace for over 82 years.

As well as fulfilling our primary purpose of serving the regulatory needs of local authorities across the midlands and beyond, we have also built up a large portfolio of customers (both public and private) throughout the UK and internationally. This has allowed us to fulfil our goal of sourcing external capital for investment in equipment and personnel - enabling services to be delivered in a way that would not be possible for the authority on its own.
