Blood or Urine Alcohol Testing

blood sampleThe Road Traffic Act, 1988 makes it an offence for a person to drive or to be in charge of a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.

The prescribed limits:

  • 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath
  • 80 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood
  • 107 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine

Persons who fail the breathaliser using the intoximeter equipment may be offered the option of giving a blood or urine sample.

  • Staffordshire Scientific Services is able to offer a confidential alcohol testing service to members of the public.

    We utilise GC-FID technology for the analysis of either blood or urine and our Public Analyst is able to attend court on request as an expert witness.

All our testing includes free expert regulatory and scientific advice from our Public Analysts and Scientific Officers.
